Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Europa Press Prices between source ruby gems and destination have had to pay consumers for fresh produce in Canary tripled in June, according to the latest data released by IPOD COAG-Canarias.
For agricultural products ruby gems the difference was particularly large for some common vegetables in the basket, as the case of zucchini, priced between origin and destination multiplied by 11.99, to be paid in the outlets 0 , 84 euros / kg while the farmer received 0.07 euros / kg.
Other products that suffered a big difference were the cabbage cabbage, for which consumers paid 9.84 times as received by the farmer, and leek, whose market price was 2.23 euros / kg and farmers were paid 0.36 euros / kg.
Both zucchini as cabbage cabbage and leek, cucumber or eggplant, farmers were paid a price, reports the COAG-Canarias, was not enough to cover the costs of production.
