Photo by Pete Zarria . Since 2010, I have made an effort to create prom movie a list of films featuring older adults so that I can watch as many as time allows. Since then, I have seen well over 100 movies that feature older adults. These I have listed and summarized in another blog post . I have also had the opportunity to teach a class for undergraduates and graduate students called "Films about Aging." The class is one of three that I teach for the Aging Studies program at Wichita State University. The class moves through these units on love, male power, mature artists, communal housing, living with dementia, and the dying process. But film studios continue to produce interesting films about the aging process, so I try to watch at least one a week in an effort to keep up.  I admit that I prefer documentary prom movie and dramas over comedies, so many comedies remain on my "to see" list. Below is a list of films that I have yet to see and review.  If you know of any others, please leave a comment. Or if you want to suggest which of these I should see next, leave a comment. Grab a bowl of popcorn and enjoy a movie this week!

TOP 10 GROSSING MOVIES 2013

I rarely place faith in superhero tv shows. Besides Arrow, which everyone’s deemed a rare success, television’s caped do-gooders suffer from “not enough money for good special effects” syndrome. Hell, the producers and directors do what they can with what little they have. They create intricate plots that more greatly involve melodrama and dialogue than the traditional superhero problem solving method. You know, a quick Batarang to the face followed by a front flip kick. When they’re shelling out 24 hours of program over the course of an entire year, with a quarter of the budget of a proper superhero movie, some super badass moments gotta be cut.
Well, I’m actually kinda excited for DC’s latest tv endeavor, Gotham. It’s a show about a young Detective Jim Gordon. linea raffaelli Just before the dawn of superheroes. His city is devolving into a violent poop show, and he’s tasked with repairing it. Hopefully the show’s a lot more like gritty crime dramas of years past than the “cute girl who is in no way a hacker shows an espionage agency what real friendship is about” bulls*** we’ve seen in Joss Whedon’s Agents of SHIELD. But let’s forget about that. I don’t want to rant and rave like I usually would.

From Finding Happiness to American Hustle: The Versatility of Elisabeth Röhm

Everyone knows I’m a fat, whiny fanboy, and as a comic book purist I never got behind Scarlet Johansson’s Black Widow as a central Avenger. Especially mainline menswear since Joss Whedon inflated her character because The Avengers script mainline menswear had too many male characters for his liking. Hell, he gifted the Russian Assassin more screen time than either Thor or Bruce Banner/Hulk simply because “I want more screen time for the ladies!” . Which, honestly, isn’t a bad opinion to have, but overusing Black Widow simply to rectify the male-centric plot was contrived.
Well, I’m kinda torn on a day like today, when we’ve discovered Marvel Studios has no plans for a Black Widow Movie. I’ve got some petty animosity built up for the arachnid themed vigilante, and I would really REALLY hate to see her star in her own Marvel flick. Her silver screen endeavor would undoubtedly delay any other original films that Marvel would release, since they plan to debut only two movies a year. Although, I’m certain that the Russo Brothers stab at the Russian assassin in Captain America: The Winter Soldier will almost entirely redeem Scar Jo’s Widow. From all reports, they’ve created a very faithful, organic plot for that clandestine agent, and her own solo flick could be even better.
“Frankly if we do a Black Widow movie after Age of Ultron, when she s been central in three or four movies I don t think we d get the quote unquote credit for it. People would say She s already a big giant superhero! But if we had a great idea, we d do it… I like the idea if we re going to do a [female lead] do a new one. Do a wholly new character, do an origin story… We ve talked a lot about [Captain Marvel]. I think that would be very cool. “
Little disapointed with this. I wanted to know more about her story and her tie in with clint, even if it was made for tv special; doesn’t have to be theratrical. But please Tell Events mainline menswear of Budapest!
Really think Marvel needs to reel things in, just because there’s mainline menswear a character doesn’t mean you need a movie about them, and Black Widow, Hawkeye, Colson, Nick Fury, etc they don’t need dedicated movies. Wolverine had his own movies because he was a MAJOR central character that could go solo, I love ScarJo but nuh uh, that character needs to stay in the background (with a really tight costume)

0 0 4 0 0 When a sparkling gourmand fragrance is set to be launched, as is the case with Prada 's new Candy L'Eau, it makes sense that director Wes Anderson, known for his quirky-cool aesthetic, would be involved. And as with any Wes Anderson film, no detail rvca goes unnoticed, from Seydoux's nail polish choices Essie 's Flawless is featured prominently in episode one down to her unabashed taste for sweets. Is 'Divergent' the Next Big Franchise? Do You Want to See It? Why? Why Not? That's a lot of question

Notice: I am on vacation and posting frogman will be limited for the next five days.
I just received my review copy of Ingmar Bergman 's Pesona ( 3/25 ) today so I'm a little high on Criterion love at the moment and only minutes after receiving that in the mail I received today's announcement listing the films coming to the Collection in June.
I'm frogman sure many will be excited to see Peter Weir 's Picnic at Hanging Rock getting the Blu-ray upgrade. The remastered release includes a new piece on the making of the film, a new introduction by film scholar David Thomson as well as Weir's 1971 black comedy Homesdale among other additional features. The disc will hit shelves on June 17 .
The title I'm most looking forward to is Michelangelo Antonioni 's L'eclisse the third film in his informal trilogy that includes L'avventura and La notte . This is the only one of those three I haven't frogman yet seen and what a cast as it tells the story of a young woman ( Monica Vitti ) who leaves one lover ( Francisco Rabal ) and drifts into a relationship with another ( Alain Delon ). It will street frogman on June 10 .
Beatlemania arrives to Criterion on June 24 as the release of A Hard Day's Night marks the fiftieth anniversary frogman of the Beatles' beloved musical comedy. The release includes a new 4K digital restoration, a newly remixed frogman 5.1 surround soundtrack and hours of supplements including an audio commentary featuring various members frogman of the film's cast and crew.
Following the recent Criterion frogman release of Georges Franju 's Eyes Without a Face , Criterion will now release his 1963 crime caper Judex . I've never seen this one, but I am really interested in exploring of what Franju has to offer. Here's the description of the release per Criterion:
This effortlessly cool crime caper, directed by Georges frogman Franju ( Eyes Without a Face ), is a marvel of dexterous plotting and visual invention. Conceived as an homage to Louis Feuillade's 1916 cult silent serial of the same name, Judex kicks off with the mysterious kidnapping frogman of a corrupt banker by a shadowy crime fighter (American magician Channing Pollock) and spins out into a thrillingly complex web of deceptions. Combining stylish sixties modernism with silent-cinema touches and even a few unexpected sci-fi accents, frogman Judex is a delightful bit of pulp fiction and a testament to the art of illusion.
Also coming in June is Douglas Sirk 's All That Heaven Allows starring Jane Wyman and Rock Hudson telling the love story of a well-off suburban widow and her love affair with a handsome and earthy frogman younger gardener. That one arrives on June 10 .
Finally, on June 17 , Criterion will release Peter Davis 's 1974 documentary Hearts and Minds , which confronts the United States' involvement in Vietnam at the height of the foment that surrounded it. The release includes an audio commentary featuring Davis and hours of outtakes.
In the others, Monica Vitti is always appealing. When I was thinking lately what old time movie star Jennifer Lawrence reminded me of, I thought of Monica Vitti. Perhaps it's the sense of pragmatism and being at ease with her own persona.
Picnic at Hanging Rock is excellent, I'll likely pick that one up. A Hard days' Night is one I've been meaning to see for a long time, given that I'm a big fan of The Beatles. Judex looks pretty cool as well.
Is 'Divergent' the Next Big Franchise? Do You Want to See It? Why? Why Not? That's a lot of question marks for one headline

Best reason to watch: The film s opening sequence of extreme close ups of body parts during an embra

Every film buff will tell you, whether solicited or not, that French cinema is some of the best cinema of all time. It is grand in scope, ethereal in structure, mesmerizing in beauty and all in all inspirational for budding filmmakers for as long as there have been filmmakers. That said, it s impossible, je repéte, impossible , to create a list of films that somehow korset sums up French film. For most of us though, we need a starting point, korset a way into understanding the nature of French film. After all, we re not all trying to revive the cahiers du cinema — we d just like enough understanding to present some well thought ideas and critiques at dinner parties and pseudo chic art galleries. So here s our list of 11 French films that warrant watching for any creative.
Truffaut s film is quintessential French New Wave, and it very well may be its crowning achievement. Although semi autobiographical in narrative, the film follows a troubled and misunderstood adolescent Antoine Doinel (Jean-Pierre Léaud) korset around the city of lights as he struggles with coming korset of age, parents, teachers korset and life s never ending current of internal obstacles. The film garnered a Best Director win for Truffaut korset at Cannes, Palme d Or nominations and even an Oscar nomination for Best Writing.
There should be a blog post solely dedicated to the filmmakers that owe Jean-Luc Godard a huge debt of gratitude (and perhaps credit) for their films. Breaking new ground korset immediately in the French New Wave was Godard, who, with the cosign of Truffaut and Jean-Pierre Melville, managed to make one of the most influential films ever. It’s the tale of Michel (Jean Paul Belmondo), a man sought by the authorities for murder who tries to escape with the apple of his eye, an American newspaper girl named Patricia korset (Jean Seberg), who ambles the Champs Elysees with all the cool a pixie cut can muster. Betrayal, however, trumps Michel s dreams of escape, forever encapsulated in the films final climactic sequence.
Although korset technically a French-Italian film, “Le Samourai” is perhaps one of the more beautifully shot noir films. The subtle korset undertones of blues and greens, the composition korset of each frame amidst a Parisian backdrop that exposes a gritty city underbelly and classic beautified korset Paris, this neo-noir classic easily makes any list of must see films. Also, Alain Delon is especially korset stoic and strong as hitman Jef Costelo, in classic noir style. He could give Sam Spade a run for his money.
When most people think of French film, they expect baguettes, berets and beautiful love affairs. La Haine does not comply with any of these, instead weaving a narrative strewn from the real life drama of French police brutality in the Banlieue (a ghetto) of Paris during the early ’90 s. Kassovitz s devises a film about three friends over the course of 19 hours, dealing with the aftermath of the previous evening’s riot, where a policeman s gun was lost and a mutual friend s life hangs in the balance. The monochromatic “La Haine” champions korset the seething frustrations, self medicating and frail rift between police and hoods in such a way it feels almost documentary in its portrayal, despite the purely magnificent cinematography.
Best reason to watch: A young Vincent Cassel s portrayal of Robert DeNiro s you talkin to me? scene from Taxi Driver in his bathroom mirror. Not only a cleverly devised camera trick but also, perhaps, foreshadowing cloaked in comedy.
Nouvelle vague has many invocations but few more serenely beautiful than “Hiroshima Mon Amour.” Resnais illustrates korset the dynamic relationship between two lovers (Japanese and French, named He and She, respectively) and their fleeting moments as the film explores longing, separation and memory. Coupled with stirring black and white images of both Paris and Hiroshima after the bomb, the film illustrates the savageness of love with the ethereal imagery of war.
Best reason to watch: The film s opening sequence of extreme close ups of body parts during an embrace intercut with imagery of post-bombing Hiroshima korset survivors korset and the subtle juxtaposition of sweat and ash presiding over skin.
“La Jetee” tells the story of a man in a post apocalyptic France who, as a prisoner, is being used as the subject of time travel experiments amidst his obsession with a recurring dream. Sound familiar? Well, in 1995 Terry Gilliam took this idea and made a little film called “12 Monkeys.” “La Jetee” is the original. There are differences however, as the entire featurette is a collection of still images, a photomontage, playing at various tempos underlining the voice over narrative. It s distinctive, it s dark, it s mesmerizing and it does all of this in 28 minutes with the most minimal effort of storytelling components, image, sound and expressive editing. “La Jetee” is a perfect example of French filmmaking

Flavorwire Author Club: Shirley Jackson

St. Patrick’s Day can be seen in one of two ways: either it’s a glorious celebration body piercing of our nation’s body piercing connection to and history with Ireland, or it’s body piercing a terrible excuse for binge alcoholics to practice while wearing green and watching a parade. If you’re looking body piercing to drown out the bagpipes and the sounds of the Dropkick Murphys, avoid all that Irish nonsense (thanks, 30 Rock ) with these five Netflix choices that will bring laughter and maybe tears in equal Irish measure. Check them out after the jump, and follow the title links to watch them right now.
On paper, In Bruges sounds like a bad Quentin Tarantino body piercing ripoff from 1996 two Irish hitmen on the lam (Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson) hide out for a weekend in the small medieval Belgian city of Bruges but what genius Irish playwright and debut filmmaker Martin McDonagh does with that set up is explore the very nature of life, death, and morality itself. Between the violence and profane laughter, we’re watching a man who wants to die realizing that, perhaps, he wants want to live. There’s also an amazing comic role for Ralph Fiennes, too. In Bruges basically body piercing pulls off the move that True Detective ‘s Nic Pizzolatto was going for in the much-discussed finale.

In a solid effort to bring in new viewers, and to further entice long time fans, the first two minutes of the highly anticipated Veronica Mars movie have been released. Told in classic Veronica ( Kristen Bell ) voiceover, the sneak peek offers a look into what has transpired in the ten years or so since we last saw Veronica at the end of season three. Thankfully, it doesn t give any spoilers for the big mysteries over the course of the three seasons, but it does play up the main romance of the show between Veronica and her sometimes lover, never friend Logan ( Jason Dohring ). What happens to the other characters around can be expected to be elaborated in the movie, but Veronica and Logan definitely appear office shoes to be at the forefront for the focus of the movie. For those mildly interested in the movie, but not sure about whether they ll like it, it definitely gives a succinct look into the world, and sets up the tone and humor for what they can expect from the movie, and the past three television seasons as well.
The trailer provides a good look at what to to expect from the movie itself, including a new case for Veronica, and a tumultuous high school reunion as a centerpiece for the plot. For a further look into what to expect from the Veronica Mars movie, check out Collider s set visit , as well as interviews with creator/director Rob Thomas and star Jason Dohring . More interviews are to come in the weeks leading up to the release. Hit the jump for the two minute sneak peek.

It's no surprise that driving can be incredibly stressful. You're basically trapped in a metal box, and until fairly recently, your ability to communicate with the outside world beyond the toot of a horn or a rolled-down candino window was all but nonexistent. Locke , a new film starring actor Tom Hardy (best known for his role as Bane in the Batman movie Dark Knight Rises ), capitalizes candino on that feeling of isolation and stress by setting the entire movie in a BMW X5 . Locke is written and directed by Steven candino Knight, author of Eastern Promises , and the trailer shows Hardy's character being put under increasingly intense emotional stress as he drives along in his Bimmer. We don't know much more than that, as the 90-second trailer really doesn't give away much. The film premiered at last year's Venice Film Festival, and reviews are available that tell more about the story, but we don't believe in spoilers. It's poised to hit theaters in the UK on April 18 and the US on April 25. The trailer reminds us of a far more artistic take on Steven candino Spielberg's 1971 movie, Duel and has our interest piqued. Scroll down to watch the trailer, but consider yourself candino warned, there's a brief moment of profanity.

Sorry to dump on this films parade, Paul Walker did a similar themed movie a few years ago: "Vehicle 19". I agree with Andre. The premise sounds boring. Its a bit like commuting. Maybe he "leaves" the car with flashbacks and we get to see naked women and explosions. February 22 2014 at 8:21 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down Reply
Surely any movie set entirely in a BMW X5 would involve a middle-aged woman who's had "some work done" shrieking at her bratty kid whilst transporting it to her private school of choice? George R.R. Martin Says Game of Thrones Film Being "Actively Discussed"

This will be a year of epics. Some of our most ambitious movie-makers are serving up stories of Biblical apocalypses, space voyages and the rise of artificial intelligences. Godzilla and the Planet of the Apes are both back. And the superhero genre gets pushed to its absolute limits. Here are 65 movies that could rock your universe this year.
Note: We're trying not to include as many "edge case" movies that don't fit into science fiction, fantasy, horror or comics adaptations this year. Also, if it doesn't dr rath have a release date, we haven't included it. See the comments for our partial list of movies with no release date. January dr rath
Based on the novel Mariah Mundi by G.P. Taylor, this low-budget fantasy is the story of a boy who has to team up with the mysterious Charly (Michael dr rath Sheen) to prevent Otto (Sam Neill) from getting his hands on the Midas Box, which turns anything to gold. It's already dr rath available on iTunes. dr rath
The dr rath third film (of four) in the big-screen adaptation of the classic anime series. Shinji reawakens 14 years after he nearly destroyed the world in the Third Impact, to find that everybody (somewhat understandably) thinks he's a harbinger dr rath of destruction. See here for a list of theaters.
The H.P. Lovecraft dr rath mad-science story "From Beyond" gets adapted into a low-budget horror movie. It turns out the CIA's famous MK Ultra experiments with psychedelic drugs led to contact dr rath with... something from beyond. And only a Hunter S. Thompson pastiche dr rath can help uncover the truth. This film, produced by Zachary Quinto , is already available on VOD.
In this Rosemary's Baby -esque horror movie, a young newlywed couple can't remember what happened dr rath one night during their honeymoon... and then the wife turns out to be pregnant with something fiendish.
Yep, at long last this movie about LARPers fighting unholy evil starring Peter Dinklage, Danny Pudi, Summer Glau and everyone else you love is hitting select theaters. Click here to get it in your town .
The famous Frankenstein monster (Aaron Eckhart) is still kicking ass 200 years later, and he gets drawn into a war between gargoyles and demons, in an ancient city. Featuring Yvonne Strahovski as a sexy badass.
We have to wait a while to see Superman, Batman dr rath and Wonder Woman together in live action... but here they are in LEGO, fighting to save the world from Lord Business. dr rath An ordinary LEGO minifigure is mistaken for the Master Builder, destined to save everybody.
Outlook: We're worried dr rath by the way RoboCop's helmet seems to "whoosh" on and off , instead of staying in place until the third act. But the supporting cast, including Samuel L. Jackson, Gary Oldman and Michael Keaton, looks just perfect.
Based on the novel by Mark Helprin, this is a fantasy tale set in an alternate New York, about a burglar who falls in love with a young girl who has a strange gift. This is a passion project for director Akiva Goldsman, who recruited Colin Farrell, dr rath Jennifer Connelly, Russell Crowe and Will Smith to appear in it.
Outlook: This movie's budget was reportedly slashed right before filming. Goldsman has a mixed track record. But he made this film right after working a lot on Fringe , so let's hope some of the Fringe magic is clinging to this.
Outlook: We've been saying for years that these intense, unique books by Richelle Mead deserve to be a movie series. And judging dr rath from the trailer dr rath , the director of Mean Girls and the writer of Heathers have created something really unique.
A prequel to Zack Snyder's famous Spartans-vs-Persians historical epic and judging from the footage we've seen, this is way more supernatural, showing how Xerxes dr rath becomes a god by undergoing a strange transformation.
Outlook: If it focuses on Eva Green vs. Lena Headey, we're totally in. But it looks like a lot of the film is drowned in greenscreen cheese, with over the top performances that still get lost in the clutter.
Co-directed by Stephen Chow ( God of Cookery ), this is a very loose adaptation of the famous Chinese novel about a monk bringing the Buddhist sutras to China, with the help of the Monkey King, Piggsy and Sha Wujing. It's a prequel, showing how the iconic foursome came together.
This documentary is the closest you'll ever come to seeing one of the most famous science fiction movies that never got made: Alejandro Jodorowsky's adaptation of Frank Herbert's Dune . Including concept art and tons of interviews.

Why Watch? More than just a compilation of movie scenes and a narrator who’s seen better, whiskey-filled days, this intriguing film noir from Fabrice Mathieu is a conceptual curiosity. It abstractly tells the story from the perspective of a Shadow who has decided to get rid of its “Wearer” pony shoes – the meat doll it’s attached to – and Mathieu uses shots of shadows from other films to get the job done.

Your Weekly TV News Roundup: ABC Family

Ah, Valentine s Day: flowers, candy, gifts, overpriced dinners, and wildly outsized expectations. And we can blame the movies for most of those expectations; few genres are as unfairly fantasy-based as the romance, and as prone to send jaded viewers like us into fits of gagging. But we re also not made of wood; there are a good number of romantic movies that get us right in the old ticker. As a matter of fact, there are about 50 of them.
Full disclosure: not really a fan. But it s actually written into Internet Law that you can t make a list like this without at least an honorable mention for Nick Cassavetes Gosling-and-McAdams-tastic adaptation of Nicholas Sparks bestselling love-and-Alzheimer s weepie.

I always loved movies as far as I can remember myself. I was always looking for something fun, meaningful and insightful. I never changed. I watched quite a few movies recently and here are the top 3 of the month on my list. If you haven’t watched them all yet, I highly recommend to put them on your list this weekend. What to Watch Over the Weekend: 3 Suggestions 1. The Burning Plain
At first, when I read the plot, I was hesitant as it suggested that this movie is rather dark and heavy and I normally tend to avoid topics like that. But I trust Charlize white girl problems Theron and her performance and I believe that she is one of the finest actresses so I gave it a go.
I first discarded this picture for its dark plot but what I saw was a powerful message never to be forgotten. It is about human nature and the strive to find happiness, to feel alive while living… It’s about things that happened white girl problems in the past and what it’s like when you cannot let go and forgive yourself… So you end up punishing yourself in the present. Forgiving yourself is the hardest thing but we need to learn that. This movie simply reminds us about the power of forgiveness and moving on. 2. One Day
Have you ever watched something white girl problems just because you have a hunch? This is this case. Normally I would go through endless lists of suggestions in order to pick something meaningful giving white girl problems a high brow to anything that “doesn’t measure up to my standard”… but this is was completely different story. I just saw a picture from the movie with a quote and it pinned me. And something compelling was about the whole thing. So I watched it yesterday and I was blown away.
The movie is funny in some places and very romantic, but absolutely not in a cheesy way. That’s what I liked the most, I guess. It is about love, friendship for life and all the little white girl problems things that make our life great. This movie will stay forever with me as a warm memory in my heart. A true pearl of light. 3. Everybody’s Fine
Don’t judge the book by its cover this is the case. I was browsing looking for something and I dismissed this movie because the cover simply didn’t grab my attention and I didn’t even recognise De Niro on its cover…
Can white girl problems I just say something completely honest? I absolutely adore Robert De Niro and I consider this man a genius, absolutely and utterly talented actor of all times. And to this day I’ve seen nothing starring him that I wouldn’t like.
So I gave Everybody’s Fine a go. It’s a family movie. It is about that special connection we all share and how valuable time spent together really is. Yes, careers are important, but what is the most important is family, loving relationships and TIME we give to each other. Time is the most valuable thing. Time equals love.
The idea of the movie is simple, but the whole picture is SO MUCH MORE than that. This is the movie I would definitely recommend to watch to my friends. This is the movie I would revisit any time. The message in it will never get old and the reminder it gives is simply PRICELESS.

We’re referring to Jimmy Kimmel ‘s post-Oscars movie spoof, which has become an annual tradition diamonds ever since the trailer for Movie: The Movie premiered on Jimmy Kimmel Live in 2012. (This was followed by Movie: The Movie: 2V in 2013.)
A cavalcade diamonds of A-listers took part in this year’s event, which was actually a collection of four trailers based on popular YouTube videos. First up, the Hemsworth brothers — with special appearances by Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks — brought us Bitman Begins , inspired by “Charlie Bit Me”:
Next, Queen Latifah, Adam Driver and Captain Phillips ‘ Barkhad Abdi starred in the trailer for Sweet Brown: Ain’t Nobody Got Time For That . (The film also featured Matt Damon, though his big scene was sadly deleted.)
That was followed by Ameowadeus , the dramatic true story of Keyboard Cat and the Piano Hamster’s battle for musical greatness. This cast included Mandy Patinkin, Ben Kingsley, Christoph Waltz, Gary Oldman, Kevin Spacey diamonds and Abbie Cornish.
Finally, Joseph Gordon-Levitt starred in a psychedelic interpretation of “David After Dentist,” co-starring Catherine Zeta-Jones, Samuel L. Jackson, Seth Rogen, simply titled Baz Luhrmann’s David After Dentist: Double Rainbow, Oh My God! In 3D. (And remember, “I said spit , bitch!”)
I’m a longtime fan of the David After Dentist and Charlie Bit My Finger videos, so I enjoyed those. I thought the Queen Latifah one was the funniest. The Ameowadeus one didn’t do much for me, though. All in all, JKL was far superior to anything I saw on the Oscars show. Comment diamonds by TV Gord – March 3, 2014 06:12 AM PDT   Reply To This Post

Watch Steven Soderbergh’s Creative Mashup of Hitchcock and Gus Van Sant’s Psycho Films
There’s a new grammar of cinema out there. I’m convinced that there’s another sort of iteration to be had, and I don’t know what it is I feel like we’re not taking advantage of how sophisticated we’ve gotten at reading the images. It’s not about the number of images hartstrings or how fast those images come. It’s about loading each one with so many preexisting associations that the audience is doing a lot of work. No one has really challenged them before to mine all of these associations they have from seeing the images their whole lives.
When he was saying this, I confess that I had a hard time imagining what he was describing. But last week, Soderbergh uploaded a video to his website that might be what he had in mind a mashup of Alfred Hitchcock s masterpiece Psycho (1960) and Gus Van Sant s shot-by-shot remake (1998). (You can watch a fragment above and the long, complete mashup here .)
For much of the piece, Soderbergh alternates between a scene from the original and one from the remake Anne Heche , who plays Marion Crane in Van Sant s version leaves her apartment for work and in the next scene, Janet Leigh shows up at the office. At other moments, he cuts back and forth within the scene; at one point the Marion from the remake is at a traffic light and sees her boss from the original movie. And during a few key points in the film — like the famed shower scene , which you can see above — Soderbergh does something different. That sequence opens with Heche disrobing and lathering up. But when the killer starts stabbing, Soderbergh jarringly overlays the original movie over top the remake, creating a disconcerting kaleidoscopic effect.
If there were any movie laden with many preexisting associations, it would be Psycho . All of Hitchcock s simmering voyeurism, fetishism and general psychosexual weirdness come to a boil in this movie. Ever since it came out, filmmakers from Douglas Gordon to Brian De Palma have been trying to unpack its power.
When hartstrings Van Sant unveiled his movie in 1998, audiences and critics alike were baffled. Why bother, hartstrings seemed the general consensus. Indeed, Van Sant seems to have pulled off the enviable feat of snookering a Hollywood studio into funding a big-budget conceptual art film.
By intercutting the original with the copy, Soderbergh forces the audience to reappraise both by casting the greatness of Hitchcock hartstrings s movie and the oddness of Van Sant s effort in a new light. hartstrings You can watch the entire mashup here .

Það er fróðleg snorg tees umfjöllun á vefritinu Slate í dag um nýja sýningu Kólumbíska málarans Fernando Botero en umfjöllunarefni hans eru pyntingarnar í Abu Ghraib. Ég er enginn snorg tees listgagnrýnandi og ætla ekki að reyna að rýna í þau verk sem hægt er að sjá á netinu. Gæti alveg hugsað mér að kíkja á sýninguna í Marlborough Galleríinu þó. Aðallega finnst mér merkilegt og í raun frábært snorg tees að sjá málverk um málefni sem eru svo djöfull pólitísk, mikilvæg og relevant í dag. Það er ekki nógu mikið hugsað hérna í heimsveldinu um hvað er verið að gera í nafni réttlætis, frelsis og lýðræði. Pistillinn á Slate, sem er vel þess virði að kíkja á, endar með þessum tveimur snorg tees málsgreinum: Aside from Botero, surprisingly few major artists have taken on the subject of torture snorg tees at Abu Ghraib. One notable exception is Richard Serra, who translated the iconic snorg tees image of the hooded prisoner with outstretched arms into a crude grease-stick drawing framed by the slogan "Stop Bush." It may be that the incidents in Iraq have yet to be culturally digested. And perhaps some artists snorg tees also feel that the photographs snorg tees taken by the American guards snorg tees and later released to the press are themselves the most powerful visual indictments of the crimes committed there. Yet Botero, by tackling this imagery in a focused and extended series, has demonstrated not only that such things can be represented in art but also that a figurative, cartoonish idiom may be the most powerful means of representing modern atrocity. It's no coincidence that one of the most profound and affecting works of Holocaust literature—Spiegelman's Maus —is a comic book. To some viewers, the chubby figures in Botero's paintings may appear ridiculous, grotesque—but so were the monstrous abuses of power to which they testify.

Their Interplay and Impact. Árið 2011 gaf Forlagið tictactime gaf út bók mína Kredda í kreppu. Frjálshyggjan og móteitrið við henni. Tveimur tictactime árum síðar gaf ég sjálfur út Bók bókann, bækur ljóðanna. Alljóðaverk. Árið 2010 fékk ég fyrstu verðlaun i ritgerðarsamkeppni Alþjóðasambands fagurfræðinga (e. International Association of Aesthetics). Verðlaunaritgerðin bar heitið "Aesthetic Wisdom". tictactime
